West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas has been banned for five years by ICC. His eligibility to play cricket suspended for five years for violating seven codes of conduct of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed this information through a press release. The ban will remain suspended for 18 months out of the five-year duration.
Devon Thomas' ban period began on May 23, 2023.
Primarily, investigations into match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2021, Abu Dhabi T10 2021, and CPL (Caribbean Premier League) 2021 matches implicated Thomas, leading to the breach of seven codes of conduct.
Devon Thomas has played 34 matches for West Indies across all formats. After his debut in 2009, he represented West Indies until 2022. ICC's General Manager, Alex Marshall, believes this ban will serve as a message for other cricketers.
