In the first Test, England crushed New Zealand at their home ground with a massive victory margin. Playing an aggressive brand of cricket under the Bazball approach, England secured an 8-wicket win against the Kiwis in the second innings.
On the fourth day, England needed just 104 runs to win in their second innings. They chased down the target in just 74 balls, losing only 2 wickets. Jacob Bethell remained unbeaten with a quick 50 off 37 balls, while Ben Duckett scored 27 and Joe Root contributed 23 runs.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat, scoring 348 runs in their first innings. Kane Williamson top-scored with 93, and Glenn Phillips added 58 runs. For England, Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir picked up 4 wickets each.
In response, England posted a commanding 499 in their first innings, taking a lead of 151 runs. Harry Brook played a stunning knock of 171, supported by captain Ben Stokes with 80 and Ollie Pope with 77. For New Zealand, Matt Henry claimed 4 wickets, while Nathan Smith took 3.
Trailing by a massive margin, New Zealand began their second innings but succumbed to Brydon Carse’s fiery bowling, getting bowled out for just 254 runs. Carse took six wickets, dismissing key batters like Conway, Rachin, Daryl, Phillips, Smith, and Matt Henry. Daryl Mitchell was New Zealand’s top scorer with 84 runs.
With a total of 10 wickets across both innings, Brydon Carse was named Player of the Match.
