Faruk Ahmed Refuses to Resign as BCB President, Will Serve Full Term
Faruk Ahmed, the current President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down before the end of his official term. Despite ongoing discussions about a possible resignation, Faruk has firmly stated that he will continue in his role until his tenure ends in October.
In an interview with national daily Prothom Alo, Faruk Ahmed dismissed rumors of his resignation, stating unequivocally that he will not leave the position before the end of his term.
Earlier, Faruk met with Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the interim government, at the latter’s residence. During that meeting, Faruk was informed that the government no longer wants him to continue as BCB president.
Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib has reportedly expressed a desire to bring change to the top leadership of the BCB. This intention became more apparent after his meeting with Faruk Ahmed, fueling speculation about a leadership shift within the board.
However, as Faruk Ahmed was elected to the position and still has several months remaining in his term, he cannot be removed unilaterally by the government. Any such move could invite scrutiny or even sanctions from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which opposes political interference in cricket administration.
Faruk has previously stated that he plans to oversee the upcoming BCB elections before stepping down in October. Despite mounting pressure, he remains committed to finishing what he started.
