Harry Brook Banned from IPL for Two Years Following Withdrawal from Two Consecutive Auctions
England's young cricketer Harry Brook, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the IPL auction, has been banned from the Indian Premier League for two years. This penalty comes after Brook withdrew his name from the IPL twice, despite being bought at the auctions.
Brook became the first player in IPL history to be banned for two years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed this ban under its new rule, which penalizes players who pull out of the tournament after being bought. Both the England Cricket Board (ECB) and Brook have been informed of the decision.
As a result, Harry Brook will not be able to participate in the IPL for the next two years. He will be eligible to enter the IPL auction again in three years, during the next mega auction.
In the 2023 mini-auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Brook for ₹13.25 crore, but he only managed to score 190 runs in 11 matches. Hyderabad later released him. He was then bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹4 crore, but just before the start of IPL 2024, Brook announced that he would not be able to play due to family reasons.
During the recent IPL auction, Delhi Capitals bought Brook for ₹6.25 crore, but once again, Brook informed them that he would not be able to play. He has since apologized to the Delhi Capitals team and their supporters for his repeated withdrawals.
