The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is taking place on West Indies soil. For this World Cup, Kieron Pollard has been appointed as a batting consultant for the England team. England Cricket has hired Pollard to provide insights into local conditions, and today, the Caribbean legend was seen at the team's training session.
At 36 years old, Pollard has played 101 international T20 matches for the West Indies. He was also part of the 2012 World Cup-winning West Indies team. Pollard has played the most recognized T20 matches, with a total of 654 appearances. In this World Cup, he will take on the role of batting consultant for the English team and will be with them throughout the tournament.
Before taking on this role with the England team, Pollard served as the batting coach for the IPL team Mumbai Indians. The ECB has brought Pollard into the coaching panel primarily to gain expert opinions on local conditions for the ICC's mega event.
Pollard has been the batting coach for Mumbai Indians since the 2022 IPL season. This time, Pollard’s assignment is with the national team. Last December, England Cricket announced Pollard as the assistant coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
On June 4, England will face Scotland in their first match at Kensington Oval in Barbados. After winning their first ODI World Cup on home soil in 2019, England went on to win their second T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.
