Markram Questions Bangladesh's Team Composition in Mirpur Test
In the recent Test against South Africa at Mirpur, Bangladesh fielded a lineup featuring seven batsmen, two spinners, and an all-rounder in Mehedi Hasan Miraz, with only one pace bowler, Hasan Mahmud. In contrast, South Africa opted for two pace bowlers, Wiaan Mulder and Kagiso Rabada, who collectively took 13 wickets in the match. The decision to include one less pace bowler in Bangladesh's squad has sparked discussion, with South African captain Aiden Markram weighing in on the matter.
Following South Africa's 7-wicket victory, Markram noted in the press conference, "There was seam movement and bounce. I think both teams would agree that another pace bowler could have been beneficial."
Despite the team's loss, Bangladesh put up a strong fight in the second innings, with Mehedi Hasan Miraz scoring 97 runs. Markram praised Miraz's performance, stating that he deserved a century for the way he battled at the crease.
"Absolutely. Playing the new ball was quite challenging for the batsmen. They had formed a good partnership the previous day, and the ball was slightly softer. It took us a lot of effort to take wickets. They deserve a lot of credit. Mehedi played exceptionally well; he deserved that century. There were many challenges, but we managed to adapt through hard work. Bangladesh deserves recognition for their performance here."
