Delhi Capitals' playoff hopes had already ended in the previous game, but in their final league match of the season, they managed to restrict Punjab Kings to 206 runs, thanks largely to a brilliant bowling display from Mustafizur Rahman.
The left-arm pacer not only provided Delhi with the initial breakthrough but went on to claim two more wickets, overtaking Shakib Al Hasan to become the highest wicket-taking Bangladeshi in IPL history.
Mustafizur's Spell vs Punjab Kings (in Jaipur):
Overs: 4
Runs: 33
Wickets: 3
Shakib Al Hasan previously held the record with 63 IPL wickets. With today’s 3-wicket haul, Mustafizur now has 65 wickets in the tournament.
He first struck in his opening over, removing Prabhsimran Singh (note: name clarification assumed) early in the second over. Although he went wicketless in his next over (conceding 14 runs), he returned in the 16th over to dismiss Shashank Singh for 11. It was a smartly bowled 136 kph cutter, which was edged behind to Tristan Stubbs. That over cost only 4 runs and had no boundaries.
Mustafizur bowled the final over of the innings, where he removed Marco Jansen, also caught behind by Stubbs. He could have had another wicket on the final delivery, but luck didn’t favour him.
Despite being knocked out of the playoffs, Delhi Capitals will look to end their IPL 2025 campaign on a high with a win in this final match.
