The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the second and final Test against Sri Lanka. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has returned to the squad for the Test starting on March 30 at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Shakib returns to the Test squad almost a year later. Before this, he represented Bangladesh in whites in April 2023.
Shakib's inclusion in the team has led to batter Towhid Hridoy being dropped from the squad for the first Test. Instead of Mushfiqur Rahim, he was included in the Sylhet Test team.
Despite not playing in the Sylhet Test, pacer Musfiq Hasan has suffered an injury. Right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud will enter to the team in his place.
Although Hasan Mahmud has represented Bangladesh in white-ball cricket, he is yet to play Test cricket for the country. He has taken 49 wickets in 16 first-class matches.
With a victory by 328 runs in Sylhet, Sri Lanka leads the series. Tigers need to win to equalize the series in the final match, which is part of 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Bangladesh squad for the second Test:
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Sadman Islam, Litton Das, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Nahid Rana, and Hasan Mahmud.
