No Captain's Event or Photoshoot at 2025 ICC Champions Trophy
There will be no captain's event or photoshoot at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Typically, global tournaments host a "Captains Meet" where the captains of all participating teams gather for discussions, followed by a photoshoot. However, there will be no such event for the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, and there won't be an opening ceremony either.
This decision has been reported by various media outlets and cricket websites in Pakistan. The reason behind this is the unavailability of the England and Australia captains at the required time, despite PCB’s intention to hold the events.
Both the ECB (England Cricket Board) and Cricket Australia have finalized their travel schedules. According to their plans, England will arrive in Pakistan on February 18, and Australia will arrive on February 19. However, the Champions Trophy will commence on February 19, leaving no time for the captain's event or photoshoot.
It was already known that India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, would not be traveling to Pakistan. As a result, without the captains of India, England, and Australia, the PCB is unable to arrange the Captains Meet, photoshoot, or opening ceremony.
An official from the ICC, speaking anonymously to Pakistan’s Geo Super, mentioned that despite the interest from both the PCB and ICC, the events could not be organized due to the unavailability of the England and Australia captains at the required time.
England is currently on a tour of India, playing T20 and ODI series. The series will conclude on February 12, and the ECB plans to give the team a 7-day break after that. On the other hand, Australia’s Test series in Sri Lanka will conclude on February 14, with a 4-day break before they depart for Pakistan.
