The wicketkeeper-batter has impressed selectors with his performance for Delhi Capitals ahead of India’s tour of Bangladesh in August.
Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is on the verge of making a comeback to the national T20 squad, thanks to his exceptional form in the ongoing IPL season. The BCCI selectors are reportedly considering him for the upcoming Bangladesh tour in August.
Playing for Delhi Capitals in the 2025 IPL, Rahul has scored 493 runs in 11 matches at an impressive strike rate of 148.04. His consistent performance includes three half-centuries and a century, reaffirming his capabilities with the bat. Notably, he also became the fastest Indian to reach 8,000 T20 runs, achieving the milestone in just 224 innings.
Rahul credits his return to form to an aggressive batting mindset and a positive outlook. “My goal has always been to represent India in all three formats. That desire and effort remain as strong as ever,” said the 32-year-old.
Former England cricketer and Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen has also backed Rahul’s return to the national side. He believes Rahul should bat at number four and take on wicketkeeping duties for India in T20s.
India is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is during the tour of Bangladesh in August. If Rahul is selected, the series could serve as a crucial step in India’s preparations for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
