Rehan Ahmed joins England squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
England all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a recurrence of a toe injury on his left foot. As a result, leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been called up to replace him in the squad.
Carse played in England’s opening match against Australia, where he scored 8 runs with the bat and took 1 wicket for 69 runs in 7 overs with the ball. However, his injury worsened after that, forcing him to be sidelined.
Before the Champions Trophy, Carse had played four T20Is against India but was given his only opportunity in the first ODI. In the second ODI at Cuttack, he was replaced by Jamie Overton, who took two wickets in his place.
A Crucial Match Against Afghanistan for England
On February 26, England faces Afghanistan in a must-win Group B match. Due to the spin-friendly conditions, Rehan Ahmed has been brought into the squad.
England’s Semifinal Hopes Rest on Wins Against Afghanistan and South Africa
For England to progress to the semifinals, they must win their upcoming matches against Afghanistan and South Africa. Despite the blow of Carse’s injury, the team remains confident of bouncing back and securing the necessary victories.
