Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens.

The violation falls under Level 1 of Article 2.5, which pertains to using provocative language, gestures, or signals directed at a batter following their dismissal. The incident occurred when Chakravarthy gave Dewald Brevis a “send-off” gesture after taking his wicket.

According to IPL regulations, the match referee’s decision is final for Level 1 offences. Brevis had scored a quick 52 off 25 balls before being dismissed. Despite Varun’s impressive spell—2 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs—KKR failed to defend a target of 179.

Following this loss, KKR remain sixth on the points table with 11 points from 12 matches, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

KKR’s remaining two matches are scheduled for May 10 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and May 17 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
