Aminul Islam Bulbul Appointed New BCB President After Faruque Ahmed’s Exit
The Faruque Ahmed chapter of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially come to an end. Following his dismissal by the National Sports Council (NSC), former national team captain and Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, Aminul Islam Bulbul, has been appointed as the new president of the BCB.
The change in leadership was set in motion when eight BCB directors submitted a letter of no-confidence against Faruque Ahmed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Responding to that, the NSC revoked Faruque’s nomination as a director late last night, leaving the BCB presidency vacant.
By this afternoon, the BCB confirmed Aminul Islam Bulbul as the new president. Bulbul, who previously served as a Development Manager at the International Cricket Council (ICC), becomes the second former Bangladeshi cricketer—after Faruque Ahmed himself—to lead the board.
Aminul Islam was nominated as a BCB director by the NSC to fill the vacant seat left by Faruque. He was then elected president by the board’s governing body during an emergency meeting held earlier today.
This marks a significant administrative shift for Bangladesh cricket, with expectations high that Bulbul’s cricketing experience and international exposure will bring much-needed reform and focus to the board's future direction.
