Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has found a new team in the Global Super League (GSL) after initially being set to play for Rangpur Riders. The UAE-based franchise Dubai Capitals officially announced on Sunday that they have signed Shakib to replace South African spinner Keshav Maharaj.

In a social media post, Dubai Capitals confirmed the addition of the veteran all-rounder, highlighting his experience and impact. Shakib, who has been away from competitive cricket in recent months, is set to return to action in this new global franchise tournament.

Dubai Capitals, who won the 2023 ILT20 title, will enter the GSL as defending champions. The inaugural GSL season features five teams:

  • Rangpur Riders (Bangladesh)

  • Central Stags (New Zealand)

  • Guyana Amazon Warriors (West Indies)

  • Hobart Hurricanes (Australia)

  • Dubai Capitals (UAE)

The tournament will begin in the second week of July, with each team playing four league matches. The top two teams will qualify for the final, scheduled for 18 July.

Shakib's fixtures with Dubai Capitals:

  • 10 July vs Central Stags

  • 11 July vs Hobart Hurricanes

  • 13 July vs Guyana Amazon Warriors

  • 16 July vs Rangpur Riders

The final match of the group stage promises extra excitement, as Shakib will face his originally planned team, Rangpur Riders—a storyline that has captured the interest of Bangladeshi fans.

Shakib’s return to overseas franchise cricket after a long break is expected to present new challenges while also inspiring younger players. With his experience, tactical acumen, and world-class performance record, Shakib is likely to be a major asset for the Dubai Capitals this season.
