Miraz Becomes Third Bangladeshi to Win ICC Player of the Month After Mushfiq and Shakib

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April, thanks to his outstanding all-round performance in the Test series against Zimbabwe. This is the first time the Bangladesh all-rounder has received this honor from the ICC.

Miraz was shortlisted alongside Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani and New Zealand's Ben Sears. Beating both, Miraz claimed the prestigious award.

With this, Miraz becomes only the third Bangladeshi cricketer to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award—joining the elite company of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan.

Reacting to the news, a delighted Miraz said:

“Winning the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award is a tremendous honor. Any ICC award is a big recognition for a cricketer, and receiving it through a global vote makes it even more special.”

He added:

“Moments like these remind me of my journey—being named Player of the Tournament in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup was a big motivation early in my career, and this award is equally significant.

The 27-year-old all-rounder shone with both bat and ball in the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. He scored 116 runs at an average of 38.66 and took 15 wickets at an incredible average of 11.86.

In the first Test in Sylhet, he picked up two five-wicket hauls—5/52 and 5/50. Despite his effort, Bangladesh lost the match by 3 wickets.

In the second Test in Chattogram, Miraz was sensational. He scored his second Test century—104 off 162 balls—and took 5/32 in the second innings, helping Bangladesh win by an innings and 106 runs. The series ended in a 1-1 draw.
