Australia routed South Africa by 97 runs thanks to a devastating bowling display by Alana King in the final group-stage match of the Women’s ODI World Cup in Indore. With a convincing seven-wicket win, the defending champions have sent a strong message ahead of the semifinals — they are arguably the most prepared side in the tournament so far.

Australia will face host India in the second semifinal on October 30 in Mumbai, while South Africa take on England in the first semifinal on October 29 in Guwahati.

King produced history with her performance, taking 7 wickets for just 18 runs, setting a new record for the best bowling figures in Women’s ODI World Cup history. It also ranks as the best bowling performance in Australian women’s cricket history, and across both men’s and women’s World Cups, only Glenn McGrath’s 7/15 against Namibia in 2003 surpasses it.

King was nearly unplayable, claiming 4 wickets in the first 15 balls. Her perfect line, length, and turn dismantled South Africa’s batting lineup.

For the Proteas, Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 31 runs, while Sinalo Jafta contributed 29.

Chasing a modest target, Australia reached the total in just 16.5 overs, losing only 3 wickets. Beth Mooney led the charge with 42 runs, and Georgia Voll added 38.

Alana King’s whirlwind spell ensured Australia not only dominated the match but also set the tone for the knockout stages of the tournament.
