Bangladesh continue dominance in the second session, openers marching towards centuries
Just like the first session, Bangladesh maintained full control in the second session of the Sylhet Test. Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam gave the team a flying start with a century partnership. Both reached their fifties before lunch, guiding Bangladesh to 109 for no loss at the interval. Joy was unbeaten on 50, while Shadman remained not out on 58, laying a solid foundation for the team.
The dominance of the opening pair continued in the second session as well. At the time of writing this report, Bangladesh had reached 140 without losing a wicket. Joy and Shadman were batting confidently on 68 and 70, respectively—both edging closer to well-deserved centuries.
Earlier, Bangladesh completely dominated the first session of the second day. Having taken eight Irish wickets on day one, the hosts needed just 2.2 overs on the morning of day two to wrap up Ireland’s innings for 286.
Taijul Islam trapped Matthew Humphreys leg-before in the 92nd over, and despite taking a review, the batter couldn’t overturn the decision. In the very next over, pacer Hasan Mahmud bowled Barry McCarthy to end the innings.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, and debutant left-arm spinner Hasan Murad claimed two wickets each.
After such a disciplined bowling performance, the strong start from the openers has put Bangladesh firmly in control of the match—momentum clearly belongs to the Tigers.
