Bangladesh U-19 End World Cup Campaign with 74-Run Win over Zimbabwe
Bangladesh Under-19 signed off their World Cup campaign with a convincing 74-run victory over Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. Batting first, Bangladesh posted 253 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 179 in 48.4 overs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh were anchored by captain Azizul Hakim Tamim, who laid the foundation with a responsible 59 off 87 balls, including six boundaries. Zawad Abrar (25) and Rifat Beg (15) provided a decent start at the top. However, a cluster of wickets in the middle overs put Bangladesh under pressure before contributions from the lower order helped push the total past the 250 mark.
Chasing a target of 254, Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals from the outset. Captain Simbarashe Mudzengerere tried to hold the innings together, scoring 70 off 121 balls, but received little support from the other end. Shelton Mazvitorera added 37 runs, though it was not enough to steer the team towards victory.
Among the Bangladeshi bowlers, Iqbal Hossain Emon was outstanding, claiming five crucial wickets with disciplined and aggressive bowling to turn the match decisively in his side’s favour. Al Fahad and Mohammad Rizan Hossain also maintained consistent pressure to dismantle Zimbabwe’s batting lineup.
