BCCI Denies Reports of India Pulling Out of Upcoming ACC Events
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed media claims that India has withdrawn from this year’s Asian Cricket Council tournaments—the men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s U-23 Asia Cup.
Indian daily The Indian Express had reported, citing unnamed sources, that India would skip both events because of escalating tensions with Pakistan. BCCI secretary Debajit Saikia rejected the story on Monday:
“The Board has held no discussions—and certainly taken no decision—about withdrawing from any forthcoming ACC event.”
Saikia added that no such communication has been made to the Asian Cricket Council.
Speculation over the tournaments grew after India’s military launched “Operation Sindoor” inside Pakistan, raising doubts about the Asia Cup (scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan) and July’s Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. For now, however, the BCCI insists its position on participation remains unchanged.
