Six Bangladeshis Went Unsold in IPL Auction
The IPL auction was a vibrant and thrilling spectacle, capturing the attention not only of the teams but also of fans across the globe. Out of seven Bangladeshi cricketers, only two names were picked in the auction. Mustafizur Rahman stood out with his remarkable performances, and Kolkata Knight Riders secured him for ₹9.2 crore. On the other hand, despite Taskin Ahmed’s name being listed, no team showed interest in acquiring him. The other five Bangladeshis—Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Rakibul Hasan, Nahid Rana, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib- were not listed in the auction at all.
The final rounds of the auction saw several surprises. Prithwi Shaw was acquired by Delhi Capitals for ₹75 lakh. Chennai Super Kings picked Jack Fox for ₹75 lakh, while Gujarat Titans signed Tom Banton for ₹2 crore and also secured Prithwi Raj. Adam Milne joined Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore. Other players like Kuldeep Sen, Vicky Ostwal, Luke Wood, Vihan Malhotra, and Kaushik Chauhan found places in their respective teams. However, Kyle Jamieson remained unsold.
The auction results clearly indicate that among Bangladeshi cricketers, only Mustafizur Rahman attracted attention from international franchises. Talented players like Taskin missed out on opportunities to secure a team, leaving some fans disappointed. On the other hand, Mustafizur’s high price and selection underline the growing interest and confidence of franchises in Bangladesh’s cricketing talent.
