History Rewritten in the Desert: UAE Clinch Historic T20 Series Win Over Bangladesh
History is meant to be broken—and in the heart of the desert at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, it was gloriously rewritten. The United Arab Emirates delivered a commanding performance to defeat Bangladesh and secure their second-ever T20I series win against a Test-playing nation.
With back-to-back victories, the UAE claimed the series 2-1, marking their first bilateral T20I series win against Bangladesh. This victory comes after their previous historic series win over Ireland, making Bangladesh only the second Test nation to fall to the Emiratis in a T20 series. For Bangladesh, it’s a second humbling defeat against an ICC Associate Member, having lost to the USA in May last year.
Following the defeat, Bangladesh captain Liton Das addressed the post-match presentation with a composed yet reflective tone:
"Whenever we come to play, we always aim to win. But losing a series—this too is a part of life. Sometimes your opponents simply play better, and they deserve credit for that."
On the team’s batting struggles, Liton admitted, "We made some mistakes with the bat. I don’t think we wanted to play this way on such a pitch and in these conditions. We bowled second in all three matches, and the dew played a major role."
Liton emphasized the importance of learning from the experience:
"We need to learn and keep learning, and apply those lessons in matches. UAE played really well today. Their bowling was excellent, and that’s why we couldn’t post a bigger total. They benefited from the dew during their batting innings. They didn’t panic while batting, and they deserve credit for that."
This landmark victory for the UAE not only highlights their growing strength in world cricket but also sends a strong message to traditional cricketing powers: the game is evolving—and the underdogs are rising.
