I Always Enjoy Captaincy: Najmul Hossain Shanto
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his enjoyment of the leadership role, despite the team's poor performance in the recent Test series against South Africa. Following a whitewash in the two-match series, Shanto acknowledged that his personal batting struggles have affected the team's overall performance.
He stated, “I have always enjoyed captaincy since my youth. I have enjoyed the last few series on the field as well.” When asked if captaincy puts pressure on his batting, Shanto responded, “I never felt that way. I just focus on the ball and my batting. Scoring runs is crucial for a player like me in the top order.”
Reflecting on his recent form, he admitted, “Yes, my performance has a significant impact on the team. In my last few innings, I’ve been getting out between 20 to 40 runs after settling in, which is harmful for the team. I need to focus more on my batting in this area.”
Despite the challenges, Shanto remains committed to leading his team and hopes to improve both personally and collectively in future matches.
