ICC Expresses Concern Over Pakistans Decision to Boycott Match Against India
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed concern over Pakistan’s decision not to play against India in the T20 World Cup. The ICC noted the statement made by the Pakistan government directing its national team to skip the specific fixture, according to a media release.
The ICC stated that it has not yet received any formal communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, the position of selective participation conflicts with the fundamental principle that all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms as per the tournament schedule.
The release highlighted that ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, fairness, and competitiveness. Any selective participation undermines the spirit and credibility of the competition.
While respecting the role of governments in national policy matters, the ICC noted that this decision is not in the interest of global cricket or the millions of fans worldwide. The PCB has also been urged to consider the long-term implications of this decision, as it may affect the broader global cricket ecosystem of which the PCB itself is a member and beneficiary.
The ICC further emphasized that the successful delivery of the T20 World Cup remains its top priority. It expects all member boards, including the PCB, to act responsibly and hopes the PCB will work towards a mutually acceptable solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.
