IPL 2025 Set to Resume After India-Pakistan Ceasefire
Following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam incident in Kashmir, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to resume the IPL 2025 season, which had been temporarily suspended due to escalating geopolitical tensions.
On May 9, the BCCI had announced the suspension of the tournament for a week, citing national security concerns and the need to consult relevant authorities. So far, 58 matches have been played in this year’s edition. The league stage still has 12 games remaining, followed by 4 knockout matches, including the playoffs and the final.
With the situation now de-escalated and tensions easing, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has hinted at a quick restart. “The war is over. We are working to resume the IPL at the earliest,” said Dhumal. He also confirmed that discussions are ongoing with franchise owners, broadcasters, and, most importantly, government officials.
Despite many foreign players having already begun returning home, franchises have been advised to keep their overseas players on standby. According to internal communications, these players have been informed that the tournament could restart as early as May 15, pending final government clearance.
A meeting of the IPL Governing Council is scheduled for today to finalize plans and revise the schedule. The BCCI aims to announce the revised fixtures within the next week, with all efforts focused on ensuring the safe and swift resumption of the league.
The resumption of the IPL comes as a relief for fans and stakeholders, signaling a return to normalcy in the sporting world after a brief but tense pause due to cross-border hostilities.
