It has been a period of frustration for Bangladesh cricket. The Tigers were outplayed in all three ODIs against Afghanistan, suffering a humiliating whitewash. Yet, amid the disappointment, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains optimistic about his team’s potential and insists that confidence must not fade.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Miraz emphasized that the team must learn from failure rather than avoid it. He identified batting inconsistency as the biggest concern for Bangladesh.
“Everyone is working hard. No one wants to play badly on purpose. Sometimes things just don’t go our way. We’re all failing together — even those who get a good start, end up getting out after 30 or 35. If our batters keep getting out like this, it’s tough for the team. But I believe we’re not as bad a side as our results suggest,” Miraz said.
Despite consecutive defeats, the skipper remains hopeful. “We’re not a bad team — just repeating mistakes. If we can’t correct them, things will get even harder,” he added.
Miraz also highlighted the importance of mental resilience, saying, “As captain, I expect our batters to work on the areas they need to improve. Change won’t come overnight, but staying mentally strong is crucial. Our coaching staff is giving a lot of mental support, and as captain, it’s my job to keep the team motivated.”
Taking responsibility for the team’s failures, Miraz said, “It would have felt good if we had played better cricket. Since we didn’t, everyone must take responsibility — including me as captain. I believe we’ll make a comeback. I have faith in the team, and I’ll keep boosting their confidence. Hopefully, we can deliver the kind of performances our fans want to see.”
