Nasir Hossain Returns to Cricket After Serving ICC Ban

Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has made his return to competitive cricket after serving a ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He took the field today for the Rupganj Tigers in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL), marking his comeback in the ninth round of the tournament against Gazi Group Cricketers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Nasir, who had been out of action due to a ban for concealing information while participating in a foreign franchise league, was seen bowling during the match—signaling his return to active cricket.

The Rupganj Tigers, currently struggling in the relegation zone, have secured only three points from eight matches so far. To avoid relegation, they need to win at least two of their remaining three round-robin games. If they are pushed into the relegation league, Nasir may end up playing up to five matches for his team.

Nasir’s ban stemmed from his participation in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he accepted an iPhone as a gift and failed to disclose the information, violating ICC regulations. The ICC’s Legal and Anti-Corruption Unit filed charges against him under three separate clauses. In 2023, when summoned for a hearing, Nasir initially did not respond but later admitted to all charges. As a result, he received a two-year ban with six months suspended.

The suspension period officially ended on April 6, 2025, making Nasir eligible to resume playing all forms of cricket from April 7.

With his return, Nasir Hossain will look to reclaim his position in domestic cricket and potentially eye a comeback to the national fold if performances permit.
