One Over of Magic Turns the Match, Dubai Lose by Seven Runs
Despite the team’s defeat in the IL T20, Mustafizur Rahman stood out with an impressive individual performance. Dubai Capitals went down by seven runs against MI Emirates, but the Bangladeshi pacer left his mark with the ball.
Mustafizur claimed three crucial wickets against MI Emirates. Bowling the 18th over on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium, the left-arm fast bowler dismissed Rashid Khan, Tom Banton, and Ghazanfar. He conceded just one run in that over while picking up three wickets, dealing a massive blow to the Emirates’ innings.
The start of the innings, however, was not very comfortable for Mustafizur. In his first over of the match, he conceded 10 runs. But he returned in the 16th over with much better control, giving away only seven runs. That set the stage for the decisive 18th over, which proved to be the turning point of the match.
On the very first ball of the over, Rashid Khan attempted a big shot off a cutter and was caught at mid-off by Dasun Shanaka. A single came off the next delivery. On the third ball, Tom Banton fell to a slower delivery, caught at long-on. No runs were conceded from the remaining deliveries, and on a ball outside off stump, Ghazanfar edged it to the slips to complete the triple strike.
Mustafizur bowled the final over of the innings as well. That over proved expensive, as he conceded 16 runs, including a boundary off a yorker. Overall, he finished with figures of 3 for 34 from his four overs.
At the end of 20 overs, MI Emirates posted 137 for 8. In reply, the Dubai side also failed to maintain momentum in the chase. Although they were well placed at 89 for 2 in the 13th over, wickets fell in quick succession thereafter. Dubai were eventually bowled out for 130, losing the match by seven runs.
