Next year, Pakistan is scheduled to play a full series in Bangladesh. However, with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) taking place around the same time, the cricket boards of the two countries are looking to reschedule the series. As a result, the series against Bangladesh is now likely to be played in two phases.
Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Chairman of Cricket Operations at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), told reporters in Mirpur on Thursday, “Due to the PSL, the Pakistan series will have to be slightly adjusted. The series will be held in two phases—one part before, and the other part after.” Fahim’s comment made it clear that it would not be possible to play the series entirely in one stretch.
According to the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP), Pakistan’s tour was originally scheduled for mid-March next year. The tour was planned to include two Test matches, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and three T20 Internationals. However, because of the scheduling conflict with the PSL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering revising the dates.
Sources indicate that the tour will be split into red-ball and white-ball segments. Discussions are ongoing between the two boards regarding which format will be played first. It is widely expected that Pakistan will play the white-ball leg of the tour immediately after the ICC T20 World Cup concludes on March 8. Meanwhile, the two Test matches, part of the ICC World Test Championship, may take place after the PSL concludes.
Fahim also added, “To participate in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh team will depart for Bengaluru on January 28. Ahead of the tournament, the team will play two warm-up matches against Namibia and Afghanistan.”
