The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed national Test captain Shan Masood as its International Cricket Advisor — a move that places the current skipper in a key administrative role within the board’s structure.

According to reports from Pakistan cricket sources, the announcement was made during a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the Pakistan and touring South Africa teams on Friday, in the presence of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The PCB had recently advertised the post of Director of Cricket after Usman Wahla was temporarily suspended due to mismanagement during the Handshake Gate incident. Although Wahla was later reinstated, it is now understood that with Shan Masood’s appointment, Wahla may be shifted to a Pakistan Super League (PSL)-related role.

The 36-year-old Masood has represented Pakistan in 44 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 19 T20Is. Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq was previously considered the frontrunner for the Director of Cricket position. Masood’s elevation to an advisory role comes at a time when Pakistan have had limited Test engagements — they recently completed a two-match home series against South Africa, with their next assignment scheduled for March in Bangladesh.

In an official statement, the PCB described the International Cricket Advisor position as a “multifaceted leadership role” involving oversight of the Pakistan team’s operations and the management of international cricket affairs. The advisor’s primary responsibilities include planning, organizing, and supervising international tours to ensure smooth coordination between the team and the board’s operational units.
