Prime Minister Congratulates Bangladesh Cricket Team on Test Series Victory Against Pakistan

Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team for winning a Test series against Pakistan on home soil for the first time.

On Wednesday (20 May 2026), the Tigers defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test in Sylhet. Earlier, Bangladesh had won the first Test in Mirpur by 104 runs. With a 2-0 series victory, Bangladesh also completed a whitewash over Pakistan.

Following the win, Bangladesh moved up to fifth place in the World Test Championship standings, overtaking India. Bangladesh now has 58.33 percent points, while India dropped to sixth with 48.15 percent.

Prime Minister Tareq Rahman said he believes such success in international cricket will continue for Bangladesh and that this achievement will further inspire the younger generation to engage in sports.

The Prime Minister also expressed hope that the Bangladesh cricket team will continue to progress on the global stage by maintaining team unity, discipline, and self-confidence. He extended his heartfelt congratulations and thanks to the players, coaching staff, and everyone involved.
