Controversy, allegations, and uncertainty continue to loom over the country’s cricket administration, as questions surrounding the recent Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election now hinge on the findings of an investigation report.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, who has repeatedly raised concerns about the latest BCB election, has now pushed for a formal inquiry into the matter. Under his authority, the National Sports Council (NSC) has already formed a five-member investigation committee to examine possible irregularities in the election process.
Explaining his position at a press conference, the state minister highlighted complaints emerging from different levels, particularly from clubs and district bodies. Referring to these concerns, he said,
“Complaints have come from clubs, and also from various district levels. Taking those allegations into consideration, we have formed an investigation committee. I will take the next decision after speaking with the ICC. We should further strengthen sports diplomacy.”
He also made it clear that the outcome of this investigation could play a decisive role in determining the future of the current BCB governing body. At the same time, he signaled that no final comments would be made until the report is published.
Emphasizing the importance of the investigation process and his current stance, he added,
“We have formed an investigation committee. I am waiting for the report of that committee. Once the report is submitted, it will be reviewed, and I will take the next decision after speaking with the ICC. But before that, I think it is better not to say anything more on this issue.”
Meanwhile, the BCB has already expressed concern in an official statement, suggesting that the International Cricket Council (ICC) may not view the formation of such an investigation committee favorably. However, according to the minister, any next steps will be taken after discussions with the ICC.
Beyond the election issue, Aminul Haque also indicated plans to investigate the national team’s recent setbacks. In particular, he mentioned looking into the reasons behind Bangladesh’s failure to participate in the latest T20 World Cup, with a decision on this expected after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Addressing the team’s performance and gaps in sports diplomacy, the minister said,
“Why we could not participate in the World Cup, or where the lack in our sports diplomacy was—these issues must অবশ্যই be examined. I may form another investigation committee on this after Eid.”
