The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its latest ODI batting rankings, bringing several notable changes. England’s experienced batter Joe Root has returned to the top 10 for the first time since 2020, thanks to his outstanding performances in the recently concluded three-match bilateral ODI series against India.

Meanwhile, India’s Rohit Sharma has further widened the gap over teammate Virat Kohli in the rankings. Rohit, who scored a fighting century in the final ODI at Lord’s, remains third in the rankings while extending his lead over fourth-placed Kohli.

Root remained unbeaten throughout the series against India, scoring 76, 99, and 74. His remarkable consistency has helped him climb four places to eighth in the latest rankings. England opener Ben Duckett also made significant progress, jumping 11 places to joint 19th after his career-best 141-run innings at Lord’s.

Despite losing the series, several Indian batters gained valuable rating points. India captain Shubman Gill remains second in the ODI batting rankings with 801 rating points, just one point behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who continues to hold the top spot. Rohit Sharma retained his third position after his brilliant 138-run knock at Lord’s and increased his rating-point advantage over fourth-placed Virat Kohli to nine points. Shreyas Iyer also climbed two places to 13th following his 66-run innings in the second ODI at Cardiff.

In the bowling rankings, India’s Axar Patel moved up 10 places to 32nd, while West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph also climbed 10 spots to 26th. New Zealand captain and left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner advanced three places to fourth in the ODI bowling rankings.
