Shakib Al Hasan Returns to CPL After Two Seasons
After a two-year absence, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is back in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). While uncertainty still looms over his international career, Shakib has already landed in the West Indies to light up the tournament. His first match is scheduled for August 14.
Shakib last played in the CPL in 2022 for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. This season, he will represent the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. The 13th edition of the CPL begins on August 14, with Shakib’s Falcons taking on the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the opening game.
CPL fans still remember his incredible bowling performance in 2013, when he claimed 6 wickets for just 6 runs for the Barbados Tridents against Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel—a record that remains the best bowling figure in CPL history.
Shakib’s return to the CPL comes amid political and personal uncertainties. A former Member of Parliament from the now-ousted Awami League, he has not returned to Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. He was also unable to play his planned farewell Test against South Africa in October last year at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons Squad:
Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim, Fabian Allen, Naveen-ul-Haq, Obed McCoy, Justin Greaves, Bevon Jacobs, Jayden Seales, Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, Rahkeem Cornwall, Odean Smith, Jewel Andrew, Shamar Springer, Ameer Jangoo, Karima Gore, Kevlon Wickham, Joshua James.
