Soumya Sarkar Takes Full Responsibility for Super Over Failure
Soumya Sarkar Takes Full Responsibility for Super Over Failure
In a dramatic second ODI on the turning track of Mirpur, Bangladesh and West Indies played out a thrilling contest that ended in a tie, taking the game to a Super Over.
Batting first, the West Indies posted 10 runs in the Super Over. Chasing 11 for victory, Bangladesh faltered despite early chances. Akil Hosein’s first delivery was a wide, followed by a no-ball — but Soumya Sarkar and his side couldn’t capitalize on those opportunities.
Soumya managed only 2 runs off the no-ball, slogging to deep mid-wicket, and could add just 1 more from the free hit. Eventually, he was dismissed for 3 off 3 balls, caught at deep square leg. Bangladesh fell agonizingly short by just one run.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Soumya took full responsibility for the missed opportunity, admitting his shortcomings.
“Maybe there was a flaw in me somewhere,” Soumya said candidly. “I couldn’t utilize three free hits today. It has happened before as well. There wasn’t any extra pressure, but my target was to hit a boundary or six. I couldn’t do it — maybe that’s where my shortcoming was.”
Reflecting on his Super Over dismissal, he added:
“It’s definitely a failure on my part. There was a left-arm spinner, and I was confident I could get a boundary. But the wicket wasn’t easy — it wasn’t one where you could hit fours or sixes easily. The ball was quite old.”
Despite the heartbreak of a one-run loss, Soumya remains determined to learn from his mistakes and bounce back stronger.
