Sri Lanka Off to Flying Start After Bowling Out Bangladesh for 247
Sri Lanka launched a dominant reply with the bat after dismissing Bangladesh for 247 in their first innings on Day 2 of the Colombo Test. The hosts raced to 83 without loss in just 21 overs by lunch, displaying a commanding, ODI-style approach in the opening session.
Bangladesh resumed the day at 220 for 8 and could add only 27 runs before being bowled out. Taijul Islam’s fighting 33 off 60 deliveries was the only highlight of the morning for the visitors, as Ebadot Hossain fell early and the innings wrapped up soon after.
But the real damage came when Sri Lanka began their innings. Openers Lahiru Udara and Pathum Nissanka gave the Tigers no breathing room, batting with confidence and fluency to build a solid platform.
At lunch, Nissanka remained unbeaten on 42 off 64 balls, while Udara was not out on 40 from 62 deliveries. The Bangladesh bowlers failed to create any real pressure, enduring a frustrating session in which Sri Lanka asserted full control.
With no wickets and runs flowing freely, the first session belonged entirely to the hosts, who now look well-positioned to build a significant first-innings lead.
