Tickner shines for New Zealand but leaves the field due to injury

On the first day of the second Test between New Zealand and the West Indies, New Zealand ended the day at 24 without loss. The West Indies had scored 205 runs in 75 overs in their first innings, leaving the Kiwis trailing by 181 runs.

Tickner was the standout bowler of the day. He took 4 wickets for 32 runs in 16 overs. However, he had to be stretchered off the field at the end of the day after sustaining a left shoulder injury while fielding. There was a tense moment when Tickner fell heavily while attempting a dive, but he was later able to sit up before being taken away in an ambulance.

Captain Tom Latham remained unbeaten on 7, while his opening partner Devon Conway scored 16. Latham won the toss and chose to bowl first. The start wasn’t easy, but Tickner took two wickets in two overs to give New Zealand a strong start.

Debutant Michael Rae supported Tickner with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 67 runs in 18 overs on his first Test. For the West Indies, Shai Hope was the top scorer with 48, John Campbell contributed 44, and Brandon King added 33 runs.

Both teams had to make changes due to injuries. For New Zealand, Rae made his debut alongside wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay, replacing Tom Blundell and Matt Henry. For the West Indies, Brandon King opened in place of Tagenarine Chanderpaul, while Kavem Hodge and Anderson Phillip also got opportunities in the team.

The first Test in Christchurch ended in a draw. The third and final Test of the series will begin on December 18 in Mount Maunganui.
