New Zealand sealed the series with a crushing 323-run victory over West Indies in the third Test at Mount Maunganui. The hosts wrapped up the tourists’ second innings for just 138 in only four overs after tea, confirming a 2-0 series win.
Chasing a daunting target of 462, West Indies suffered a dramatic collapse either side of lunch, losing eight wickets for 25 runs after being well placed at 87 without loss. Jacob Duffy led the bowling attack with five wickets (5/42), while Ajaz Patel supported him with 3/23. Opener Brandon King was the top scorer for the visitors with 67. On a cracked surface offering uneven bounce and movement, Duffy and Patel posed constant danger to the Caribbean batting lineup.
Earlier, New Zealand’s opening pair laid the foundation for the win with commanding performances. Devon Conway scored 227 and 100, while captain Tom Latham struck 137 and 101. It was the first time in first-class cricket history that an opening pair scored centuries in both innings of the same match. The series had begun with a draw in Christchurch, but consecutive victories in Wellington and Mount Maunganui ensured the Black Caps claimed the series convincingly.
