Masood on Babar Azam: "Sometimes People Need a Break"
Babar Azam, one of the top batters of the modern era, was recently dropped from Pakistan's Test squad after struggling for form, particularly in the series against England. Despite Pakistan’s recent resurgence in Tests without Babar, questions about his place in the team persist. However, Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood believes that this break will allow Babar to return to the Test arena even stronger.
Discussing Babar's exclusion on BBC's Stumped radio program, Shan Masood emphasized the importance of rest, saying, “Babar is one of the best batters in the world. I am not in a position to speak on his future, but he has all the qualities to be one of the best in Test cricket. He’s consistently ranked among the top batters. Everyone needs a break now and then.”
Shan is confident that the break will benefit Babar, allowing him to recharge and come back stronger. "I believe this rest will be helpful for Babar, and he’ll return more resilient. There are times when you just need to pause and catch your breath. He’s played a lot of cricket and has been through a lot. He will continue to be Pakistan’s most crucial batter."
Babar has been included in Pakistan's squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. Shan Masood also hinted that Babar won’t be away from Test cricket for long, as Pakistan’s next Test series is against South Africa, where he is likely to make his return if all goes well.
