The first Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa has commenced at Mirpur. After whitewashing Pakistan in the previous series, Bangladesh faced a whitewash themselves during their tour of India. Now, they are ready to seek redemption on home soil against South Africa.
Captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. This match marks the return of Test cricket to Mirpur after nearly 11 months. Bangladesh has made significant changes to their bowling lineup, including four spinners: Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, and Naim Hasan.
In their previous encounters, Bangladesh has played a total of 14 Test matches against South Africa, losing 12 and drawing 2. The Bangladesh squad consists of: Zakir Hasan, Saadman Islam, Muminul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das (wicketkeeper), Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Naim Hasan, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Hasan Mahmud.
On the other hand, South Africa's lineup features: Aiden Markram (captain), Tony de Giorgio, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, David Beddingham, Kyle Verreynne (wicketkeeper), Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Dan Pite.
As the match unfolds, both teams are eager to make a mark in the Test Championship, with Bangladesh looking to capitalize on their home advantage.
