Wriddhiman Saha is set to retire from all forms of cricket

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, aged 39, has announced his retirement. The veteran cricketer will conclude his 17-year career with the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, as he confirmed through a social media post.

On Sunday, Saha shared a photo with his teammates on Twitter, stating, "After a memorable journey in cricket, this will be my final season. I feel honored to represent Bengal in the Ranji Trophy one last time before retirement. Let’s make this season unforgettable."

Following MS Dhoni’s retirement, Saha took up the role behind the stumps and played the majority of his matches between then and 2021. However, with the rise of Rishabh Pant, Saha gradually fell out of favor. Initially serving as a backup wicketkeeper, he was eventually informed by coach Rahul Dravid that he was no longer part of India’s future plans.

Saha last played for India in 2021, in a Test series against New Zealand. Over his career, he has represented India in 40 Test matches and 9 ODIs. In the IPL, Saha has played a total of 170 matches and won the title with Gujarat Titans in 2022.
