Bangladesh U-19 took a commanding 3-1 lead in the six-match youth ODI series with a dominant bowling performance in the fifth match, restricting hosts Sri Lanka U-19 to just 196 runs in their innings in Colombo. A win today would secure the series for the young Tigers — and they’re well on course.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka began steadily with a 35-run opening stand. But the breakthrough came through Rizan Hossain, who removed opener Suhas Fernando after a 28-run effort. Chamika Hinatigala could only manage 7 before falling early.

The home side’s hopes rested on captain Bimath Dinsara and Kithma Withanapathirana, who attempted to consolidate. However, Debasish Deba dismissed Withanapathirana to break the partnership. Kavija Gamage departed for a duck soon after, and Dinsara’s 42-run knock also came to an end at a crucial moment.

Left-arm spinner Samiun Bashir Ratul then tightened the screws, picking up three wickets in quick succession to leave Sri Lanka reeling.

Despite the regular fall of wickets, wicketkeeper-batter Adam Hilmi provided resistance. He scored a fighting 50 off 55 balls with 6 fours and a six. In the end, Hilmi found a resilient partner in Kugadas Mathulan, and together they added some crucial runs in the final stand to push Sri Lanka close to the 200 mark.

Still, a total of 196 looks below par on a decent batting track, leaving Bangladesh U-19 with a golden chance to clinch the series with a successful chase.
