Bangladesh Earns Prize Money Despite Champions Trophy Exit
Before departing to compete in the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto had expressed hopes of winning the title. A victory would have earned Bangladesh $224,000 in prize money, equivalent to 27 crore 6 lakh 46 thousand 424 Bangladeshi Taka. However, the Tigers were unable to secure even a single win, disappointing their fans and supporters.
Although their performance was dismal, the Bangladesh team still earned a significant sum from the Champions Trophy. Despite failing to make it past the group stage and not reaching the semifinals, the team returned home with prize money, amounting to more than 5 crore 73 lakh Taka.
Finishing third in their group, Bangladesh ended up in 6th place overall in the tournament. Their final match of the group stage saw England lose to South Africa, which solidified Bangladesh’s 6th place finish.
Each team participating in the tournament received an entry fee of $125,000 (approximately 1 crore 51 lakh 3 thousand 37 Taka), and Bangladesh will receive this participation fee.
According to the prize money announced by the ICC, the 5th and 6th placed teams in the tournament will receive $350,000 (around 4 crore 22 lakh 88 thousand Taka) each. This means Bangladesh has earned $475,000 in total.
