Australia Retain Top Spot in ICC Test Rankings, England Leap to Second

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its annual update of the Test rankings on Monday, May 5, with Australia holding on to their No. 1 position. England made a notable jump to the second spot following a series of impressive performances over the past year.

The updated rankings consider results from the past 12 months at full weight, while matches from the two years before that are given partial consideration. Australia, the reigning World Test Champions, top the list with a rating of 126—down slightly from a previous 15-point lead, now trimmed to 13.

England’s resurgence under their new aggressive approach has seen them win three of their last four Test series, raising their rating to 113. This rise propels them above South Africa (111) and India (105), who now sit at third and fourth respectively.

India, long-time contenders for the top spot, have slipped to fourth despite their consistent performances in recent years. Meanwhile, New Zealand rounds out the top five with a rating of 101.

Here are the current top 5 teams in the ICC Test rankings:

  1. Australia – 126 rating

  2. England – 113 rating

  3. South Africa – 111 rating

  4. India – 105 rating

  5. New Zealand – 101 rating

The rest of the top ten includes Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

In the ODI rankings, India retains the No. 1 spot, reflecting their dominance in the 50-over format.
