Relief for Chattogram Ahead of Rangpur Clash, Shariful Cleared After Practice Injury
Chattogram Royals made a confident start to the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League by putting off-field turmoil behind them. However, ahead of their match against a strong Rangpur side, a sudden injury during practice briefly raised concerns in the camp. Pacer Shariful Islam suffered a blow to the head while training in Sylhet, though the team later received reassuring news.
With no BPL match scheduled on Sunday (28 December), Chattogram Royals took part in a practice session at the outer ground in Sylhet. During the session, Shariful sustained a head injury. Considering the situation, he was immediately taken to hospital, where he underwent necessary medical examinations.
Chattogram franchise’s team director Habibul Bashar Suman told the media that there was nothing to worry about regarding Shariful’s condition. Scans showed no complications, and he has already returned from the hospital to the team hotel.
It is worth noting that just before the start of the BPL, the Triangle Group formally withdrew from the ownership of the Chattogram franchise by sending a letter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Subsequently, the BCB took over the responsibility of running the team. Despite the controversy surrounding the franchise, it did not affect their performance on the field.
Chattogram Royals began their BPL campaign in style, defeating Noakhali Express by 65 runs in their opening match. Shariful Islam played a key role with the ball in that game, picking up two wickets for just 14 runs in his three overs to help lay the foundation for the convincing victory.
