Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has once again found himself at the center of discussion in the ongoing World Cup. After labelling Indian opener Abhishek Sharma a “slogger,” he also predicted that India will fail to qualify for the semi-finals from Group 1.

Speaking on a Pakistani talk show, Amir said that except for the Pakistan match, India’s batting line-up has consistently collapsed throughout the tournament. According to him, the way South Africa and the West Indies are playing, they have the ability to defeat any team.

In Amir’s words, “Except for the Pakistan match, India’s batting has collapsed in every game. The way South Africa and the West Indies are playing, they can beat any team.”

Earlier on the same show, Amir made controversial remarks about Abhishek Sharma. He said, “From whatever little I have seen, to be honest, it seemed to me that he is just a slogger. I don’t think his technique is very strong. He stands in one position and wants the ball in his zone so he can hit it. Only when I see him handling swing or movement will I call him a proper batsman.”

Responding to these comments on a YouTube channel, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh strongly reacted. He said, “After waking up, he is saying whatever he wants. Even if Abhishek is a slogger, then fine, let him hit sixes. But in reality, Abhishek is a complete batter. He knows which shot to play and when. He can play shots over cover, point, long on, long off, and midwicket. You cannot call him a slogger.”

Harbhajan further added, “If I start naming the real sloggers, some people might feel hurt. I don’t want controversy. But calling someone a slogger is unfair. Abhishek has proven himself in international cricket.”
