Bangladesh Suffer Defeat to Pakistan, Pakistan Reach Final with Six-Wicket Win

Pakistan secured a place in the final of the cricket event at the Asian Games in Japan after defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in the first semifinal. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 13 overs per side. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 111 for 7 in their allotted 13 overs. In reply, Pakistan reached the target for the loss of four wickets with nine balls to spare.

After winning the toss, Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan elected to bowl first. Bangladesh found themselves under pressure from the very beginning. Three batters were dismissed before the team reached 21 runs. Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored 7, while captain Litton Das made 2. Parvez Hossain Emon, who came in at No. 4, also failed to make an impact, scoring just 1 run.

Despite wickets falling at one end, Towhid Hridoy launched a counterattack from the other. He played a brilliant 42 off 25 balls, including two fours and four sixes, to give Bangladesh a competitive total. Saif Hassan contributed 19 off 17 balls, while Mosaddek Hossain scored 11 to help Bangladesh cross the 100-run mark. Mehedi Hasan’s unbeaten 8 off four balls at the end took Bangladesh to 111 for 7.

For Pakistan, left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem was the leading wicket-taker, claiming three wickets for 26 runs in his three overs. Another spinner, Arafat Minhas, picked up two wickets for 23 runs.

Chasing 112, Pakistan suffered an early blow in the very first over when Mehedi Hasan dismissed captain Sahibzada Farhan for just 1. Although they started aggressively, Maaz Sadaqat (15 off 7), Saim Ayub (21 off 12) and Usman Khan (14 off 9) could not stay at the crease for long. Pakistan lost four wickets for 50 runs, briefly raising hopes for Bangladesh.

However, Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad sealed Pakistan’s victory with an unbeaten 59-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Abdul Samad smashed an unbeaten 30 off just 15 balls, including one four and five sixes. Hasan Nawaz remained unbeaten on 27 off 22 balls. Pakistan consequently reached 112 for 4 in just 11.3 overs to complete the victory.

For Bangladesh, Mehedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain took one wicket each.

With this victory, Pakistan advanced to the gold medal match of the Asian Games. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will play the third-place playoff for the bronze medal.
