West Indies Cricket Faces Financial Crisis, International Player Salaries Cut by 25

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has taken a major decision to address a severe financial and performance crisis. The board has decided to cut the salaries of internationally contracted players by 25 percent. Meanwhile, contracts for domestic cricketers have been reduced to seven months.

As part of its cost-cutting measures, the men’s Super50 and women’s T20 Blaze tournaments scheduled for this year have also been suspended. CWI Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring said the additional costs of staging the tournaments and covering travel expenses had become impossible for the board to manage.

The board is now focusing on preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifiers. In place of the suspended tournaments, the regions will organize new invitational qualifying tournaments for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with the costs to be covered by the respective local cricket boards. However, the four-day West Indies Championship will continue as usual.
