Two Bangladeshis in The Hundred Auction
Two Bangladeshis in The Hundred Auction
England’s 100-ball franchise tournament, The Hundred, is entering a new phase this year. For the first time, players will be acquired through an auction instead of the draft system. Two Bangladeshi star players have secured spots on the list of potential participants.
The auction will be held in London on March 12. From an initial list of 712 male players published last week, 247 have been shortlisted for the final list. In the first phase of the auction, 10 marquee players will be selected. While no Bangladeshis are among the marquee players, Rishad Hossain has been listed as a ‘Tier-1 spinner’, and Mustafizur Rahman is on the long list.
Among the 23 Bangladeshi players initially listed, Mustafizur had the highest reserve price of £100,000, while Rishad Hossain’s reserve price was £75,000. The others were placed in the £31,000 category. However, apart from Mustafizur and Rishad, no other Bangladeshi players made it to the final list. Previously, franchises in The Hundred used a draft system to select players, but this will be the first edition to use an auction.
