Smith Called Up to Australias T20 World Cup Squad
Steven Smith has been added to Australia’s T20 World Cup squad. He has been included to replace Josh Hazlewood, making him available to play against Sri Lanka if required.
Smith was flown in quickly after Mitchell Marsh suffered a groin injury. He has already joined the team for training, but it is not yet confirmed whether he will feature in the playing XI.
Marcus Stoinis has been cleared of any serious injury. After Australia’s loss to Zimbabwe, a win against Sri Lanka is crucial to keep their Super Eight hopes alive. Selector Tony Dodemaide stated that ICC regulations require any squad changes to be approved at least one day before a match.
Australia’s batting lineup has lacked consistency—Travis Head, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Tim David have not yet performed up to expectations.
Sean Abbott is with the squad as a reserve, but he will only get a chance in the main team if another player is injured.
