The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has brought significant changes to the national selection panel, appointing former captain Kazi Habibul Bashar as chairman.
In a media release on Monday (March 23), the BCB confirmed the development. Bashar, 53, previously served as a national selector for both the Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams. During his playing career, he was a successful batter and became the first Bangladeshi to score 3,000 runs in Test cricket.
Former pacer Hasibul Hossain has also been included in the new panel. He had been a member of the previous selection panel led by Gazi Ashraf Hossain since September 2025.
Additionally, Naeem Islam and Nadif Chowdhury have been named in the panel. Naeem, 39, enjoyed a two-decade-long career, scoring more than 20,000 runs across formats. He also holds the national record for the most first-class centuries by a Bangladeshi, with 34 hundreds.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Nadif Chowdhury represented Bangladesh in T20 internationals during his nearly 20-year career. After retirement, he has been actively involved in talent development, serving as an age-group selector for the BCB.
The tenure of the newly formed selection panel will run until the announcement of Bangladesh’s squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, scheduled to be held in Africa in October–November 2027.
